In one of the many solution defenses I have led, this C-level client mentioned the word “crazy” and “my name” in one sentence.
It was during the first week of February. My client was very engaging but seemed distracted in our solution defense. During the break I asked why. He said his boss just messaged him to confirm their business trip a week later. He shared he just got married and is very concerned he and his wife will be apart on their first Valentines Day.
He joked.. “Do you have a solution for that?” My colleagues suggested that I bring the client to Greenhills to buy nice pearls from Almira.
Before we continued the meeting, I shared “Patrick’s Candlelight Technique”, as follows:
Five minutes before 12:00am Valentines Day.. call you wife to tell her where you hid your special gift. Also tell her to close all the lights after reading your “note”
Your special gift is a small (Bday) candle with a ribbon (your wife’s fav color) tied at the bottom-most part of the candle. Put it inside a match box with 3 match sticks. Prettify the match box. Add a scented stationary inside with a note that says:
“In a far away land.. little Prince (client’s name) and little Princess (wife’s name) we’re in love. One day, the evil Sorcerer (name of the person who asked my client to fly for a business trip) casted a dark spell for a giant dragon to snatch the little Prince and bring him to a far away Windy Land (his business trip is in Chicago).
The little Prince cried and asked the Wizard Merlin for help.. and they were given the Gift of the Light.
Wizard Merlin commanded.. At the strike of 12:00am on Valentines Day when all is dark, both of you should light-up the candle I magically gave each of you. Let your hearts talk to the candlelight as if you are talking to each other. Once the flame reaches the ribbon, blow the candle as if you are kissing each other good night.”
My client blushed, laughed hard and said.. “Patrick, that’s the craziest solution I have ever heard!”. Can you email that crazy suggestion to me, here’s my business card.
*About the photo
That’s me and my gorgeous wife Prudence during one of our visits to Osaka Castle Japan. Prudence is my gorgeous little Princess.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT: My client informed me he also put the pearls-set inside a big match box, and that his wife had happy tears refusing to blow out the candlelight.
He told me this.. during the launch of his account with us.
