Fear is what prevents us to Grow.

We always tend to choose the easy option because it feels good when we get the quick gratification. We always want to stay in our comfort zone because it feels good and we already know what the environment is and how to overcome the challenges inside that zone. Most will shy away when the leader asks who wants to go first in an activity because we want to see how others do it first and never want to go first. When the leader asks for a volunteer, most will bow their heads or look elsewhere because they want to take it easy and just enjoy the ride without doing anything.

I have been in those uncomfortable situations. I was afraid.

My mentors, like my dad, taught me that it is important that we recognize it exists and then decide to stop living in fear. We must decide to try the harder option so we can break through and learn more. We must take that first step outside our comfort zone so we can transform and achieve new things. We must take a deep breath and decide to just do it and do it very well. We must develop our confidence and raise our hand and say “I volunteer!”

Furthermore, some say that one needs to experience 10 failures before they achieve 1 success. I see it differently… I gain 10 new learnings to cherish 1 success. Once we have welcomed fear in our lives and accept it as part of the path towards growth, only then do we become successful.

*About the two photos of my eldest daughter, Nina:

In one photo, you can see her eyes behind her glasses say.. “Papa, can I really pass this Admission Exam to study here in Mapua University?”

In the other photo… well, you can see her beautiful triumphant smile when she graduated college from Mapua University.

Each step was not easy. Each subject was very hard. Each professor was very tough. She decided to embrace fear and grow… until graduation.
