Invest in getting to know your Associates beyond just about work. Acquaint yourself with their personal background like the province where they came from, which school they attended, how many siblings they have, are they the eldest in the family, their favorite sport and hobbies. Most would tell me about their birthdays, anniversaries, when their family is expecting a baby, celebrations of their kids in school, etc. I am able to relate because my dad is from the province while my mom grew up in the city, I come from large family clans, I have four children who are mostly millennials, I have a granddaughter, and I love to sing & dance. I do my best to understand what makes them laugh, sad, zestful and inspired. I regularly walk each and every workstation in my production floors to have light conversations with 100% of Associates in my Team. I get to know their goals and what motivates them to work hard. I am able to get real time feedback about anything and everything about our client processes, customers, frontline leaders, support Teams, other Associates and even the unsolicited latest gossips. I am able to provide immediate answers to sometimes uncomfortable topics they may have like salary increase, salary comparison with other companies, promotion, bonuses, etc.

I love doing this because I am able to bring senior leadership to the frontlines on a regular basis. As a result, I am able to influence strong performance, strengthen our organization’s brand, advocate for the organization’s core values & purpose, prevent attrition and have happy Associates.

During one of the Family Day events, several of my Associates excitedly cheered and insisted that I join the Zumba dance activity. So, I did.
