Be An Employee Or An Entrepreneur?

I tell my 4 awesome kids they have the option to either grow their career as an employee or set-up their own business as an entrepreneur. There are no right or wrong answers here because both are exciting, challenging and rewarding. If given a chance, it is best to try both. I suggested they develop an entrepreneurial mindset as early as high school or college days. They can try selling snacks, printed shirts, handicraft bracelets and other similar items with their schoolmates. I told them that I used to be a disc jockey (DJ) and write & record rap songs as jingles for politicians when I was in high school. When they graduate from college, I suggested they work for a reputable organization so they can experience the theories they learned from school in the real corporate world. In so doing, they experience having a boss, working with a professional Team, complying with organizational policies, file a vacation leave, getting salaries and paying taxes. If they do well, they get promoted to a frontline leadership role where they are responsible for a Team, the Team’s performance, get escalated & escalate someone, get grilled in presentations, receive commendations & rewards, and have one of your mentees promoted, etc. Once they are ready, they can start their own business based on what they want to do.
Experiential learning is best and this applies to me too. This is why me and my wife decided to stop talking about being an entrepreneur and started being one.

For our 28th wedding anniversary month (since December 30, 1994), I decided not to give my gorgeous wife Prudence flowers or chocolates…. This time, I went down on one knee and gave my wife her own food business.
