The House of Blues
SNAPS DAY 338

As you progress into a senior leader role, you no longer just think of your Team and your geography. You are expected to have a global leadership perspective and maturity. Horizontal thinking is one of the essential traits of a seasoned leader because it requires you to influence a global organization by putting a spotlight on alignment, collaboration and resilience. This ONE global Team culture must be able to withstand any challenges, calamities, setback, times of uncertainties and including organizational shifts.
Horizontal thinking also anchors on diversity, inclusion, unity and equality. Aside from positive and welcoming insights, the leader must also accept the suggestions, criticism, and varying perspectives of all stakeholders because each one has an equal voice. Socializing one’s idea to a second person transforms that idea into a partnership between two persons. Imagine if leaders of 3 or more departments of a global organization decide to consistently cooperate and be progressively interdependent to one another, the result will be sustainable & scalable success.
However, the reality is that sometimes there will be 1 or a few managers who do not want to collaborate. They believe they are different or better than all the other leaders. I respect their opinion. In due time, they will observe that all the other departments, Sites and geographies are living and breathing a ONE Team global culture of helping, partnering and winning together; not in silos. What I have seen across all my organizations, is that these “so-called kings” either join the rest of the ONE global Team culture or resurrect their kingdom elsewhere.
*About the photo
This is me and my gorgeous wife Prudence at the House of Blues in Chicago. We stayed near-by at the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel. We enjoyed the food, music and culture along with our friends. One of the signers walked around with the microphone encouraging the audience to sing. Well… as expected, they were not able to force me to jam because I am a volunteer. :)
The House of Blues is a chain of concert halls with live music in the United States founded in 1992. Their mission is to celebrate and demonstrate the power of music to bring people together. Their concerts feature all genres including rock, pop, soul, funk, R&B, gospel, hip-hop, country music and more.
