Servant Leaders face the toughest, most intriguing and most painful challenges in a deliberate manner. They do not get anxious, they do not rattle, they remain calm. They never pass-the-buck to anyone. They accept full accountability for all their decisions. They are confident they only do the right things all the time despite the presence of any intense pressure or adversaries. They courageously practice good wisdom and deep knowledge even if they face a wall of pain or danger.

They have the iron will and determination to achieve their goals no matter what. They collaborate and rally their Team and even their community towards victory and success. No one is left behind, and, they design models so no one will ever be left behind. They ensure the next generation of leaders are mentored and immersed on their leadership brand and values. This now becomes their legacy of everlasting fortitude.

*About the photos
Remembering my great grandfather, Don Evaristo Fernando de Lara Sr., on his 132nd birthday today, October 26th. He obtained his LLB degree in 1925 from National University-Law School and later was promoted to Assistant Secretary to Philippine President Manuel Luis Quezon on January 9, 1936. He also occupied several leadership roles in the Manila Railroad Co, Office of the Governor General Francis Burton Harrison, and National Warehousing Corp.

Lolo Eva, as we fondly call him, is known as the “little President” because he wore too many hats multitasking and worked alongside President Quezon around the country and abroad. He was instrumental in employing very honest, smart and humble men and women in Malacanan Palace who became great Filipino leaders. He actively participated in the evaluation of prisoners who were falsely accused and helped them find jobs after their lawful release. He is also admired for his generosity, empathy, kindness and family orientation. He also donated his Cadillac to Don Bosco to benefit the students taking auto mechanics. Meanwhile, there is also another side of Lolo Eva that comes across as a stern personality making it uncomfortable to warm up to him easily. He has such high standards and expects perfection. He personally shares best practices to his Team and colleagues on how things can be done most efficiently. When President Quezon wants a difficult task solved, he assigns it to Evaristo and have peace of mind.
