SNAPS DAY 271

Sometimes you encounter autocratic leaders who love creating their own kingdom and what they say influences policies and the direction of the organization. This type of leadership and its followers exists in some organizations especially when their group’s performance is consistently green. This group typically has its own way of doing things, leadership programs, engagement activities, and professional norms based on what the autocratic leader says. It is presumed that the members of this group get unspoken preference in approvals, business travel, vacation time, and promotion which may or may not necessarily be true all the time.
When you are faced with this… you find yourself in a cross road deciding will you join, ignore, be part of the other kingdom, create your own or leave.
There’s really no right or wrong answer because certain work environments and situations may thrive best with this type of leadership style. It also depends on other factors like do you share the same traits, likes, social norms, and values of the autocratic leader and the members of this group. If not, you do not have to force yourself to join this group. However, when your work, performance and emotional health are affected by this situation then I suggest that you have a conversation with your boss and then also with Human Resources about it.

If you need more help, I’m happy to be your Career Coach and guide you in processing your situation, your thoughts, and help yourself identify solution options that is best for you.
