Some of the best leaders I know are “JAN”.

Jolly - A leader must create a positive and happy Team environment where everyone is motivated and driven to perform their best. You must know each of your Team members from their core goals, their personal circumstances, family and challenges. Work towards ensuring everyone has a collaborative and interdependent relationship within the Team.

Authentic - A leader must maintain the highest levels of trust and confidence amongst her/his Team. All Team members are vulnerable, true to one another, and, harmoneously work towards optimizing each others’ strengths. You must ensure everyone is confident that the other members of the Team will perform their roles in achieving the overall Team goals.

Nurturing - A leader insatiably develops her/his Team to gain new knowledge, skills and professional maturity. S/He makes lifelong learning fun and exciting. S/He is biased towards experiential learning and finds a valuable lesson that her/his Team can learn both when things go right and when things don’t go as they expect.

Meet one of my dearest friends, Jan.

Since I met him in Partnerships Servicing department, he has always been kind, happy and genuine. He is very smart and is one of our top performers. He is selfless and charismatic because he happily shares all of his time, talent and knowledge to others. He writes extremely well. I remember he featured me in our PS Newsletter when I was new in the organization. We even had a chance to play badminton a couple of times with my eldest daughter. In all our conversations, he would often express how he wants to spread positivity, how he wants to help others with his God-given talents, and how he wants to be a Mission Ambassador so he can participate in high-impact activities for the Site and for the Community. The leader in him has inspired me and a lot of our fellow Associates to be a good human being like him, to always bring-out our very best like him and to inspire other like he does.

He became one of our most loved Mission Ambassadors. The other photo of Jan and me in-action was taken in Santo Tomas Elementary School (main campus) in Calauan Laguna. Jan, several other volunteers and myself helped in constructing a safe drinking water tower with high-grade quality filters from Plant Water. The ultra-poor families in the community do not have extra money to purchase mineral water and just boil water for drinking. With the help of Jan, they are able to have access to free and safe drinking water. Jan helped construct at least 2 of these towers.
