One afternoon, I saw one of my Mission Ambassadors looking unusually sad in the cafeteria. She was sad because she failed her second time to apply for a Unit Manager post. She remarked “Don’t worry, Patrick, I’m fine. Maybe being a leader is not for me. I am proud as an Associate taking care of my customers. I am also about to get married so maybe it’s a sign that I need to focus on my personal life for now.”

I told her “I encourage you to try again and don’t stop until you achieve your career goals. I see you as a natural leader because you are insatiable in sharing what you know. You always grab the opportunity to inspire others to be great every day.”

I added “That is your brand. You are the leader without an ON / OFF Switch… coz your natural leadership element is always ON”

I asked her “Tell me, how do you influence other Associates to perform their best and grow their career?”

She said “I ask them to tell me their compelling WHYs. I tell them to find their passion at work. I influence them to build a personal career strategy so they can transform themselves to be the leader they want to be.”

I told her that she is already describing how she actuates Transformational Leadership in her peer coaching.

Fast forward into the future… she got married to her amazing fiancé. They are blessed with a healthy beautiful baby they fondly call “Dumpling”.

Oh…. She became a top performing, multi awarded Unit Manager. She was able to produce over 7 Leadership promotions from within her Team.

She passed after her 4th try.
