Associates and leaders who prefer and practice a “People First” approach tend to stay and grow with me. Those who like a more “Leader First” or “Boss” approach do not work well in my span.

My leadership approach is collaboration, assuming positive intent, investing in people development and high touch-high feel engagement across all bands especially with my frontline Associates. I love spending time with my frontline Associates and frontline leaders! Telling my Associates and leaders what to do is “NOT” the leadership approach I apply.

I deliberately work towards having a work environment where Associates are encouraged and supported to perform the greatest work of their lives. I create programs like Work Streams and projects that aims to both bring out the best of individuals and how various individuals can become a high performing Team. Top performers are always recognized and become role models of the Team. There is always a celebration at work from a smallest win to the greatest achievements. Exceeding all stakeholder commitments naturally follow because everyone is committed and owns the goals.

I ensure all my Associates across all roles are supported by the processes in their respective LOBs (Lines of Business) & Departments, company policies, coaching models and systems. I partner with the Learning and Development department to revisit the Associate Development Program. I share my vision that new hires on Day 1 of Onboarding are presented a learning and development plan on how to clearly grow from Level 1 Associate up to a Director Level across all functions in the organization. I partner with HR and my Delivery Team to ensure performance management program is established and fair. The result is heightened trust of all Associates to their leaders, with each other and to the organization.

Everyone is empowered to share their insights, suggestions and recommendations on how to constantly enhance the processes in their respective job roles, to humanize the policies of the organization that make us a great place to work, and, implement engagement programs that constantly elevate the quality of life while working. One example is in close partnership with HR, I implement monthly employee surveys and targeted Associate-Connect Sessions where Associates have a voice - this is very important to me coz remember that I am an Associate too.

Which work environment do you prefer - People First or Leader First?

*About the photo

Everyone in my organization is very comfortable calling me Patrick, Pat, brother, bro, dude, Papshie, Paps, Dad, Kuya Kim and definitely NOT sir, boss or chief. This is my amazing Badminton Mondays group in one of my organizations. Everyone is invited to play including friends and families of our Associates. I usually bring my eldest daughter and son when they don’t have class in school.
