One of my clients called me up and shared that their company mandated cost cutting in the entire organization. Due to the various transformation and process improvements we have done to reduce cost, his business unit is not on the radar for cost cutting. However, he said they will not be able to give us a price increase in the upcoming contract renewal.
I told him we want to help their organization and would like to propose to lower our prize point in the upcoming contract renewal by transferring the account to any of our Provincial Sites. I invited him to visit our 3 Provincial Sites and he agreed.
I planned the visit to be as ordinary as possible so I informed my Provincial Site leaders only 1 day before the actual visit. I told them NOT to prepare any VIP treatment for the client visit.

Day 2: We flew to our Site in southern Luzon and did the same routine. He loved the view of the huge mountain (Isarog) in front of the Site. I did warn him never to stay in the hotel across the Site because it’s haunted. I personally saw a ghost when I stayed in that hotel.
Day 3: We went to our Site down South of the Philippines and did the same routine. We had him taste durian fruit.
He selected the second Provincial Site we visited. I told him we can give him up to 10% discount on the price for this Site.
He informed his boss. They appreciated the genuine partnership and the discount we proactively offered. As a result, they no longer posted the RFP to other vendors. They signed a renewal of our contract to the tune of:
With continuous transformation activities, we got the same price point on year 1 while transferring operations from Metro Manila to the Provincial Site, 3% discount on year 2, and another 5% discount for the auto renewal year 3.

This photo is in Cagsawa Church ruins while over-looking Mayon volcano during one of our family vacations in Bicol.
Day 1: Me, my Operations Director and our client drove to our Site up north of Luzon wearing jeans, t-shirt and sneakers. We went through security protocol, spoke with the Recruiters and not the manager, he interviewed live applicants, entered a new hire class and interacted with the trainees and the Trainer, went around the facilities and spoke to the frontline associates hanging out in the cafeteria, in the kubo rest areas. We also went to the Governor’s Office for a meet and greet wherein the Governor talked about how we have helped create employment in the Province.
