With Cake or No Cake?

One of my friends called me up one morning with a sad story.

Apparently, one of the senior leaders in their company spoke to my friend and said the big boss wants to put my friend on a tough Performance Improvement Plan but if my friend would immediately resign and no longer show up at work the following Monday, the big boss is okay to give my friend up to 2 months salary.

I asked why do you think your big boss wants you to leave. My friend said the big boss committed grave violations and my friend is a witness so would like to cover this up by asking my friend to leave. My friend told me in confidence that their big boss does not know it but my friend was able to record conversations and has pictures of evidences against their big boss.

What my friend did next was:

- Negotiated with the senior leader that my friend will submit a resignation letter with the last working day after 3 months so can still get salaries for 3 months.

- Meanwhile, will announce to the organization that my friend has decided to put up a business instead of being an employee and is rendering a 30-day notice.

- Also, my friend will announce that all the remaining leave credits will be used so is why my friend will physically no longer report to work the following Monday.

This was accepted by their big boss through the senior leader and their HR also agreed to this arrangement.

Once my friend announced the resignation to the organization and that my friend will only be physically present until that Friday, several send-off gatherings were done to recognize the amazing contributions and charismatic leadership of my friend. In all those gatherings, my friend was given a lot of cakes.

3 months later… before my friend turned over the company laptop on the last day as an employee, my friend logged-in to the whistleblower page of their company and uploaded all the recordings, pictures and an incident report.

In less than a week, the company announced that the big boss is no longer connected to the company effective immediately. Since this was effective immediately, there were no send off gatherings and the big boss left with no cake.

Karma is real.

Respect your fellow Associates. Do not abuse your powers when you become the big boss. Or else, you have no cake when you leave and everyone will know you did something wrong.
