It was a Friday, I was attending a leadership conference that week in Virginia USA when I got a call from Donjie. He is a Team Leader in one of the departments I manage. He is also the Mission Ambassador Lead of that department. He informed me that something happened that week and he is happy to share the success story.

The department had a sudden call volume spike throughout the week. Our Associates volunteered half of their lunch breaks to support our customers on the phones. At the department-level, lunch packs and coffee were served by the leadership Team and by our Mission Ambassadors daily. All support officers were actively helping on the production floor. It was all hands on deck. While the Associates were determined to help our customers, he felt they are getting stressed. He immediately reached out to the larger Mission Ambassador leadership Team and they happily volunteered to help. During their lunch breaks and wearing their respective department shirts, they rallied in Donjie’s department cheering the Associates. There were games, dances, singing and giving out of snacks throughout the week. Their message was clear… “We are here and we are one with you!”

What was supposed to be a very stressful week became a week of strengthening of our culture and values as an organization, and as one Family. This shared ownership activity became one of the norms in our organization beyond just the Mission Ambassador Team.
