Even Super Humans Are Human

SNAPS DAY 330

When your best Associate doesn’t seem to be performing in her/his natural element, you may need to immediately pull this person for a one-on-one coaching conversation with you. You’ll need to practice emphatic listening and just let your Associate pour out the root cause of what is bothering her/him. Sometimes, this takes time and it’s okay. There could be an abundant number of reasons because you’ll never know what someone is going through. I suggest do not be clinical and investigative asking too many questions. This doesn’t call for a prescriptive approach even if you feel you have experienced a similar situation. The solution or approach to your Associate’s situation must come from her/him and not from you. So you can optimize your similar experience to ask the right questions to help “the Associate” process her/his thoughts, express feelings, bouncing of ideas, sometime cry, and sometimes they just need space or a quiet time. You can reassure her/him that you are there both as a colleague/direct manager and as a fellow human. Remember to always do the right thing, you may redirect the conversation to the Associate’s goals depending on the situation, and you may opt to ask if it’s okay to invite other people in the conversation like HR, a family member, a Team member or a Coach to help depending on the situation. In a nutshell, it’s a human to human conversation.

*About the photo
4 out of 5 times when my Associate or a friend is in this situation… they just need someone they trust to be around them. No talking required.

As a Professional Coach, I’m happy to share more insights. Just PM me and I’ll be glad to help. This candid photo was taken during the Grand Team Building of my awesoMAzing Mission Ambassadors in Batangas. Majority of my MAs are now people leaders across various roles. I am humbled how the MA Program has helped develop them to be people leaders who bring humanity and good to others.
