"No Shouting Allowed"

SNAPS DAY 287

Leaders must not lose their temper at work. One’s Wrath or anger has no place in a work environment. If you are someone who is forcefully emotional and expressive, I recommend you must learn how to take pauses, deep breathing and consult a Coach to help you manage your temper. I am happy to have coaching conversations with you; just PM me.

Leaders must treat their fellow Associates professionally, with utmost respect and as human beings. Being the boss does not mean you are authorized to harass or shout at your direct reports. You do not have the right to insult them in front of the Team. You must never say offending and abusive words to them in your social media Group Chats.

When a direct report has areas for improvement, talk to the Associate directly and NEVER reprimand them in public. If the Associate needs help in improving performance, then you must provide more support, mentorship, enroll the person in a training program or give her/him a top performing buddy. If the Associate continues to fail on performance, then go ahead and enroll that person in a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) in partnership with Human Resources. If s/he still continues with bad performance, then the company policy through the PIP will professionally manage the situation.

As leaders, you must be mindful with what you communicate to your Team. There is a spotlight on leaders 24x7 both at work and outside work. The higher you are in rank, the more spotlights are on you. Everyone is watching what we wear, what we say, how we say things and most especially how we treat each and every Associate professionally.

*About the photo

Meet Princess. She’s a seasoned global leader from Cebu who is very organized, detail oriented, analytical, very strict and also very much loved by her entire Team and clients. She is soft spoken and never raises her voice. Her Team proactively perform their very best because they do not want to stress their beloved leader. As part of her growth, she was assigned to another account and was given the task to manage the most complex Line of Business.

It was Princess’ first time in Manila so I invited her for a catch-up over breakfast. Her clients preferred that she joins them during their visit to our Manila Site coming from our Cebu Site. Three months later, we all cheered when she got promoted.
