Genuine Trust is essential in a Winning High Performance Team.
I was hired as a growth leader in one of my organizations. After a month, I told my boss everyone is busy and I am not getting the response and support I need from the Management Committee. It has caused delays in RFP responses and disorganized client visits.
My boss immediately told the Management Committee (Tuesday 6pm) “I want us to transform from just a Delivery Location into a Growth Location. We are doing this aggressively for the first time. We will make mistakes and learn along the way. With everyone’s active participation, I know we can only get better. I hired Patrick to lead us to achieve that vision. Hence, I need you all to prioritize and support him 100%”
Almost immediately, I had one-on-ones meetings with every member of ManCom and their expanded Teams to build and align on the strategy. We agreed to disagree. We agreed to proactively share best practices and resources. We, ourselves, agreed to work together at the frontlines so all our extended Team members knew this was the top priority. We agreed to win... all the time. We agreed to have fun.
What really happened was everyone lowered their swords and shields, everyone raised their hands and kept it raised.., everyone decided to genuinely trust each other and… “assume positive intent”.
