Leaders manage complex, pressing and sensitive conflicts for breakfast.
They decide whether to grab the bull by the horn & solve it head-on, tap on the collaborative culture that s/he has established earlier-on to resolve it, deliberately allow the conflict to progress to understand underlying situations & nuances before resolving it, or accept the conflict to be a new norm that must be taken into consideration.
Deciding on the approach is never too easy, there’s also no one-fix solution but… it’s also not impossible.
As a baseline, leaders must establish a working culture that is high in trust, collaboration and excellence. Doing the right thing at the right time is table stakes. Working in Teams is the execution norm. Striving for excellence everyday is the role of every single Associate in the organization not just by the leaders. This environment reduces conflicts to the bare minimum.

*About the photo
Meet my dad’s “glamorous” sister, Karenina Naval Salazar, who we fondly call Tita Nonet. She is our walking encyclopedia, historian, dictionary and calculator… in short, our very smart aunt. She retired from the Department of Agriculture leading their information and multimedia communications division.
She suggests prevention is better than cure. Establish an environment, culture and policies that aim to bring everyone towards the same path in achieving goals.
However, when unavoidable conflict arises, “You must consider all three sides of a coin” to resolve it -- the opposing views of the two parties involved and the third is your unbiased expert view. Aim to swiftly solve most, if not all, of the issues related to the conflict. Also, know that some conflicts will need you to bring-in more experts to resolve it while a few cannot be solved (ex. merger & acquisition, government regulation changes, Covid-19, etc)
