Strong Leadership Heritage

Succession planning ensures that future leaders are identified to support the growth and continuity of the organization through the centuries. High potential Associates are identified based on their performance, potential and aspiration to take leadership roles. They go through rigorous training and development programs to ensure they are ready for the next level. They are developed to be leaders who are visionary, promotes learning agility, practices horizontal thinking, has a transformation mindset, and results driven.
Based on my experience, an organization’s succession plan can only be successful if the organization also has a program designed to train the leaders who are developing other leaders. It must not only be focused on the high potential Associates level. There must be a specific program for all levels of leadership. This can be a mentoring the mentor or coaching the coach program. In all of these activities, the most senior leader of the organization must personally be involved in the overall succession planning and not only delegated to the leadership training department to implement.
In so doing, the deep leadership heritage of the organization’s vision, mission, core values and including the long history, amazing stories, triumphs, resilience and heroes of the organization are passed on to the next generation of leaders. This is a key ingredient to a succession plan designed to last several lifetimes and growth beyond boarders.
