Vertical thinking. These are leaders who focus on problem solving the current concerns. They are great trouble shooters. They typically already have an action plan for all the expected activities and challenges that occur annually, monthly, weekly, daily. They direct their teams what must be done to solve hurdles because they are familiar with what happens throughout the year.
After being a great vertical thinker, you must evolve towards being able to strategize far, wide and deep creating governance and execution models that involve everyone in the organization. You can visualize all the moving parts of the entire organization and become a horizontal thinker.
I always mentor my Team that you are a leader of a global organization and not just of your Site or your department or your individual Team. Go ahead and influence towards ensuring ALL departments in the organization are aligned, collaborated and follows a common set of business imperatives.
