Last Christmas 2021, I took my son on a lunch date. He is a 3rd year Human Resource Management college student at DLSU-CSB. I asked him to drive but we had to change cars at the last minute. He accidentally left his cellphone in our other car which was cool coz now I have his full attention.
We talked about a lot of topics - life, his school, my work, outlook for 2022, his girlfriend, etc. He said one of the HR topics they have in school is about work life balance.
I shared there’s a time for work and there’s a time for life outside work.
Realistically, this is easier said than done that’s why we need to ensure our loved ones are aware about our personal goals, challenges and interests. As a loved one, you’re equally responsible to support each other in both your work life and personal life coz they are interconnected.

*About the photo:
After our Christmas lunch date and all these topics related to time management…. I asked my son:
“What time is it?”
He looked at his wrist and said “Oh, I don’t know. Pa, I left my phone remember”
I knew he has not had his own watch for a long time so I told him…
“Worry about time management later, let’s first start with helping you know what time it is.”
That’s me and my son, Great Angelo. Now, every time he looks at his watch he’ll remember our conversation.
Its called work-life integration.
I reminded my son about the story that since the time me & his mom met, we agreed to support each other. Both me and my wife started as minimum wage earners; we started from the very start.
With a lot of hard work, determination, further studies & training, seeking mentors, standing up when fallen, learning from mistakes, doing the right thing, and also praying, frequently bonding, traveling, dating, eat out and a lot of dancing… my wife’s last role was the General Manager of VMV Hypoallergenics, and before that, she had 24 years at Metrobank and retired as a Branch Manager.
*She’s enjoying the last few weeks of her retirement because she plans to go back to the corporate world after our eldest daughter gets married this February 2022.
Meanwhile, I am privileged to be part of an amazing global organization with the coveted role of serving my Associates, my clients and the community.
He said “Pa, I can’t wait to graduate so I can start working. I told him “Don’t rush, anak. Take it one day at a time”
