Before we can move forward to our desired destination, we must first know why we are headed in that direction. We need a deep sense of purpose so that no matter what changes happen in our environment, the organizations we are part of, the industries we are in, the products and services we provide, and the grand challenges we encounter… we will still achieve our ever-evolving and progressively ambitious goal.
Our deep sense of purpose converts our ambition into reality.
*About the photo
I always involve myself in outreach activities of the organizations I am part of. This photo was taken in Alabang Elementary School during one of our weekly HAIN feeding program that our organization sponsors. A certain part of their student population of 6000 come from ultra-poor families. A number of students come to school without eating for a day or more. Our Associates would conduct a short learning session with the kids and then serve breakfast.
Our Associates and I would always inspire and tell the students to continue being a good child to their parents, study hard, do the right thing and keep their ambition in their mind and in their hearts because if they do, they will achieve their goals.
Every time I speak with the kids, they always talk about their desire to graduate from school so they can help their parents and siblings. It is common for them to talk about the hardships they witness in their lives and this fuels their passion to be successful. Some will tell stories about how they would go straight to the nearby rail road track after school to help their parents sell vegetables and other goods.
One time, a student said his family has not eaten for days because the goods their family sell in the rail road track were confiscated by the police during a recent illegal vendor clearing operation. The teacher validated his story so I had my volunteers set aside extra food for the student to bring home to his family.
Another time while I was talking to the students about their goals, a teacher showed me and the students her photo when she was in grade school also in Alabang Elementary School. She shared her ambition was to be a teacher so she can teach young kids. When she became a teacher, she decided to come back to the school to pay it forward. God bless all teachers.
