Psychological safety is very important in a Team environment. Each one respects, trusts each other and assumes positive intent. Each one is emotionally safe, comfortable and vulnerable. They feed on each other’s strengths to overcome the other member’s weakness. They are interdependent, their roles are crystal clear, and trusts every member does their roles in unison. They are skillful, pushes the boundaries in achieving their goals, and take risks as one. Each person is relevant, motivated and driven to win together.
Another important ingredient in a Team is individual maturity. It enables you to stay calm, think straight and collaborate.
*About the photo
One of the foundations of building a Team is at home. This is one of the oldest photos (1980) of me and my siblings in front of our mother’s ancestral home in Sampaloc Manila. That is my lovely sister Dra Lenlen and Coach Nath (Mickey Mouse ears). We grew up agreeing, disagreeing and then finally collaborating with each other. I am grateful and confident to say we are one solid Team even when we are oceans away.
*3 Trivia about this photo:
1. My “Patrick Pose” started forming when I was 7 years old. It is influenced by a TV superhero called Voltes V — a super electromagnetic robot operated by five young heroes who saved planet Earth. The highlight of Voltes V shows is when their leader shouts “Let’s volt in!” - it’s time for the five individual battle ships to be united as one Team — Voltes V robot.
2. I started forming my ONE Team model because of this photo. Voltes V is composed of 3 siblings and 2 more teenagers. I envisioned the most powerful Team must be Outstanding, Nurturing and Empowered (O.N.E.)
3. All my Teams know I love shouting a cheer to rally the Team. I would always shout “ONE Team….” and then then everyone shouts the name of our Team. That cheer was influenced by the leader of Voltes V shouting.. “Let’s volt in!”
