One day, the pope was walking and he chanced upon a carpenter. He asked the carpenter “Excuse me sir. What are you doing?”
The carpenter replied.. “Can’t you see, I am breaking rocks!”
The pope continued walking and met another carpenter. He asked the 2nd carpenter “Excuse me sir, May I know what are you doing?”
The second carpenter replied… “I am here to earn a living!”
As the pope was about to finish his rounds, he bumped into another carpenter. He asked.. “Excuse me sir. What are you doing?”
The third carpenter replied… “Oh.. I am building a cathedral”
PERSONAL REFLECTION:
In your mind…. Are you the first carpenter? Do you see yourself as the second carpenter? Or, are you the third carpenter? If not any of the three carpenters…. Who do you relate to?
*About the photo
My son, Great Angelo, drew this sketch with pencil and paper when he was 13 years old and a freshman in Don Bosco Tech Institute. It was his first time to draw. He needed to practice and develop his skill in drawing (break rocks), have a perspective of the vases he needs to draw (vision of the cathedral), and finish & submit it on time so he gets a grade for his work (earning a living). As we appreciate this drawing, we realize he needed to have a holistic perspective in order to accomplish his project.
Back your reflection… So, are you all 3 carpenters then?
